The Economic Times report adds that Rhiti Sports – the agency managing the 37-year-old cricket star – has filed the recovery suit in the Delhi High Court alleging he hasn’t been paid in years for endorsing the real estate company.
“The Amrapali Group has not paid the dues, a figure close to US$30.6m, for branding and marketing activities,” Managing Director of Rhiti Sports Arun Pandey was quoted as saying by the business publication.
MS Dhoni who represented the realty giant for the almost seven years resigned as its brand ambassador in April 2016, after being trolled on social media by unhappy customers of an Amrapali housing project in Noida.
The Amrapali Group has liabilities of about US$459.2m towards authorities, owes over US$153.1m to about 10 banks, and needs another ~US$450m to complete its ongoing projects. On Wednesday, the Supreme Court directed the real estate major to submit details of the amount required to complete its housing projects and also a proposal on shifting buyers from projects that are at a nascent stage.
