Premium French skincare brand Avene has recently secured an endorsement from Chinese table tennis supersta Fan Zhendong.
The deal sees the 28-year-old Olympic gold medallist feature in Avene’s latest large-scale promotional campaigns in the major business districts across China’s tier-1 cities such as Shanghai, Guangzhou and Changsha.
Over the past two years, the table tennis star has been an endorsement magnet; securing coveted deals from the likes of Cadillac, MLB, Anta, Rimowa, Redmi, Li-Ning and Butterfly.
According to ASN data, Avene has been rather muted in the Asia sponsorship since a spate of celebrity endorsement withdrawals from Chinese actors Zhang Ziyi and Xing Zhaolin, as well as K-pop and Mandopop star Henry Lau.
Meanwhile, the FMCG: Cosmetics & Toiletries category have invested a mere US$427k in China’s table tennis sponsorship market since Q322, with an average quarterly investment of almost US$36k during this period. Things have been rather muted since Q323, however, with the likes of Ma Long, Sun Yingsha and Fan Zhengdong securing major skincare brand endorsement deals, the forecast is certain to be rosier.
