Taiwanese headquartered computer hardware and electronics brand Acer has scored a sponsorship deal with Indian Super League (ISL) franchise Mumbai City FC.
The deal sees the leading Asian technology player as the official technology partner of the ISL franchise for the current season. As part of the deal, the global technology company’s logo will appear on the sleeve of the Islanders’ first-team outfits in the ISL, as well as at the club’s training facilities and the Mumbai Football Arena.
Following the deal, Sooraj Balakrishnan, Head of Marketing, Acer India, said, “Football is one of the most popular sports in India, and we are excited to partner with Mumbai City FC, one of the most successful football clubs in India as their official Technology Partner for the ISL season. This partnership is a perfect fit for Acer, as we share the same values of passion, innovation, and performance. We believe that this partnership is a win-win for both parties.”
“Mumbai City FC will benefit from Acer’s cutting-edge technology, and Acer will benefit from the club’s large and passionate fan base. We are confident that this partnership will be a success, and we look forward to working with Mumbai City FC to achieve great things together.”
Kandarp Chandra, CEO, Mumbai City FC, quipped, “It gives me great pleasure to welcome Acer into the Mumbai City family. Technology and innovation are key to growth in any field, including sports, and Acer are at the forefront with their global footprint. I look forward to a great relationship with Acer as we continue to strive towards our goals in this all-important season.”
Prior to this deal, the franchise had also secured a raft of sponsorship deals with Bisleri, Mala’s, GoSchool, Fast & Up, Kick EV, Clicky, Zixa Strong, Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital, Radio City 91.1 FM and JBL.
Mumbai City FC—owned by the City Football Group, Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor and Bimal Parekh—are currently fourth in the ISL with 11 points and are also in the AFC Champions League.
According to ASN data, Acer is essentially a challenger brand in the Asian sponsorship market (1.4% share, US$868k) since Q121. However, the brand has an eye in India’s sponsorship market, particularly football in this quarter, sealing an endorsement deal with Sunil Chhetri. Spends in other markets have witnessed a spate of withdrawals since 2022, namely Philippines’ UAAP Basketball League, Taiwanese baseball team Fubon Guardians and the Malaysian Leg of the Spartan Race.
