One of Asia’s biggest marathons, the Tata Mumbai Marathon, has made legendary British marathoner Mo Farah its International Event Ambassador for its 20th edition.
Following the deal, Mo Farah enthused, “I am thrilled to be the International Event Ambassador for the landmark 20thedition of the Tata Mumbai Marathon. When I run, I feel free, feel happy, and what better way to share this feeling with my fellow runners than an event that kickstarted a running movement in India 20 years ago?”
“Road running has been a catalyst for change, as has the city of Mumbai. I am looking forward to seeing a superb celebration amidst the sights and sounds of Mumbai. I’ll be there cheering for everyone at the start line.”

The event will feature a record-breaking 60,000 runners in a range of races— including the full marathon, half marathon, 10K run, a wheelchair race, and a dedicated Senior Citizens’ Run— on January 19th 2025 .
The competitive men’s and women’s races with a collective prize money of almost US$400k will feature the likes of reigning champions Hayle Lemi Berhanu and Srinu Bugatha in the men’s category while the women’s category has Aberash Minsewo and Thakor Nirmaben competing for top honours.
According to ASN data, athletics (3.1%, ~US$366.5m) is the 8th largest backed sport in the Asian sponsorship landscape since Q222, with an average quarterly investment of US$31.6m+ during this period. However, spending has been below this average since Q124 reaching between US$14.5m+ and ~US$23.7m, and the trend is going to continue in Q125 with a forecast of US$17m+ for the sport.
