In an eleventh-hour deal, Indian financial institution Muthoot FinCorp, a subsidiary of the Muthoot Pappachan Group, has taken on the mantle as title sponsor for Team India’s home series till March 2028.
The deal pushed by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), sees one of the largest non-banking financial companies (NBFC) in the nation, spend a whopping US$18m to back the popular India national men’s team home fixtures, which started with the September 27 series in Thiruvananthapuram against West Indies.
It would last 35 international home matches alongside domestic and age-group fixtures, and run till March 2028. According to local media sources, the per match title sponsorship comes up to just over US$500k, about 14.2% increase from preceding title partner, IDFC First Bank’s outlay of US$438k.
The India’s cricket sponsorship market continues to dominate the sport with the blockbuster deals the national team and IPL franchises garner. As such, the BCCI has always been able to command sizeable sponsorship deals from brands looking to be associated with the sport in the market to engage the masses.
According to ASN data, Muthoot Pappachan Group has invested over US$23.2m in the past ten years in the Asian sponsorship industry, however, it has plummeted to zero since Q124. The mega deal with the Indian national cricket team is certain to see its sponsorship numbers up for Q326. In the past, the conglomerate had invested heavily in the local football and cricket scene; securing a plethora of deals ranging between US$390k and almost US$2.7m.
