Qatar-based logistics company GWC has become the first regional sponsor of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in the country.
GWC, which operates the largest privately owned logistics hub in the region,previously supported last year’s FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar and will also serve as the official logistics provider of the biggest global sporting event in 2022. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
Simon Thomas, Fifa’s chief commercial officer, said GWC “will provide Fifa and its commercial affiliates with crucial support and expertise in logistics and supply chain management, which will ensure a smooth and efficient delivery of the competition.”
The regional sponsorship slate for the tournament will likely pick up from the next quarter as they join FIFA’s existing global partners, which includes the likes of Adidas, Coca-Cola, Wanda Group, Hyundai, Qatar Airways, Visa, Budweiser, McDonald’s and Vivo.
Qatar 2022, which is is due to take place from November 21 to December 18 in two years time, will take place across eight stadiums, and mark the debut of a FIFA World Cup in winter.
