The company which provides generators to cover electricity shortfalls for live events, will play a similar role as an official supporter of the Tokyo 2020. Under the terms of the US$200 million agreement, Aggreko will provide the temporary electricity system to support the Games. The company has become the 58th domestic partner of Tokyo 2020, which includes 15 gold and 30 official partners.
This will involve providing temporary power services and operations to support the International Broadcast Centre, the Main Press Centre and the Athletes’ Village. They will also support functions such as broadcast, technology and sport lighting in 43 venues.
The company has a history of supporting athletes and stakeholders at international sporting events, including Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Pyeongchang 2018.
According to the ASN Index, Aggreko is a challenger brand for the energy and gas category in the Asian sponsorship landscape since Q116, having a mere 1.9% share and investing slightly over US$1.7m, the bulk of its spend (US$1.5m) focused on this year’s Winter Games in Pyeongchang. The company’s other, smaller scale deals are Singapore-centric namely the WTA Finals, Singapore Yacht Show, Singapore Open and HSBC Women’s Champions Trophy.
